Not proud to be a malayali man

I am proud about so many things . And even though i adore women (in a good sense ) i am proud of being a man too .. But i am not proud to be a" malayali" man .  Not because of the corruption charges and the sex scandals filling the malayalam channels frequently (or rather exclusively ) these days  .  But because as recent as the latest "solar corruption charge " the focus have moved from the involvement of the chief accused to the serial tv artiste .  . But more disturbingly it was showing the private life of the  actress and it was being shown almost like a comic strip with no relevance to the case .I was thinking out loudly how the private life of a person could be so mockingly put in media and that too when the case is in trial .I could conclude only that the typical malayali man has a voyueristic interest in the private life of a pretty woman or maybe his insecurity is stimulated seeing a woman having control over her private life .

This is not a unique incident . As recently as a few months back a prominent tv anchor had a verbal fight with  a malayali man in an airport .  Maybe his male ego got hurt  but what was shocking was not the details of the fight . Facebook was showing picture of her in  a club hugging a man and that too with the  comment "prostitute "  .  Being the most literate state (God alone knows in what )  it was thought provoking what hugging a man in a club in a dance has to do with an airport verbal fight and that too prostitution .  Kerala is known for its matriarchal heritage and seemingly better status of women  .

As they say in the movies if  malayali men are so courageous let them not fight women . And if we have no role models in the older age group  in real life  at least find role models in malayalam movies especially Mammootty .. Have seen him protecting women only ...

Can i get a transfer to a better place where they are less vouyeristic and nosy .. I forgot this is Gods own country ..

  1. Dear friend, do not be disheartened by the antics of the least respectable page 3 standouts who garnish our mass media. There are a lot of honorable men and women in Kerala who have held fast to our core values and traditions. Of course nobody talks about them as there is no money is involved!

Many of our teachers who worked without commercialistic ambitions and whose efforts have made us who we are today, are probably excellent role models. Kochouseph Chittilappilly is another genuine role model. Mammootty projects an image for his fee, spewing dialogs written by trained scriptwriters. He could be a different person in real life. Not so Rajinikanth.

Only a real man will walk away from a fight without getting provoked, as that requires a higher reasoning and a clearer conscience. Benevolence, courtesy, honor and decency are deteriorating values these days. They have to be preserved at least for the sake of our younger generations. Stay, as this is your home. It chose you, not the other way around.

    Ramadan Kareem!

  2. well said deepak . Yes there are many honorable men here . But right from the taxi driver to the morning newspaper to the daily conversations i find the contrast stark as i am in and out of kerala so frequently travelling to neighbvouring states . I hate to generalise but there is something seriously wrong in not all of us but more than a minority .
When page 3 becomes page 1 ( front page of leading newpapers and most malayalam channels ) i think it reflects the soceity more than the media rather than vice versa because media exists for the soceity ..
