from 35000 feet

Yesterday my co-passenger in jet airways offered me water to drink .  I accepted it and drank it because seldom i am offered water by co-passengers in an airplane .  . Before the perestroika in airline industry every flight was offered five star meals . And there was no point in co-passenger offering whatever they were eating or drinking . Though few airlines gives meals nowadays the non-sharing attitude has continued .
Then why i accepted it from the complete stranger next to me in the passenger seat ?. Because  this time my co-passenger was an airhostess .
Because i travel often i make it a point to observe these people who makes our life comfortable at 35000 feet . Some of them are extremely polite and many of them are hardworking . With salaries starting at 50000-60000 per month they not only serve you food but also remove the plates after you have eaten . Compare this with jobs in hotels where the waiter relegates the clearing of dishes to the juniors . When there is little space for putting luggage some of them climb on the seats and help putting the baggage so that the passengers are at ease . The point is the good ones make sure that the guest is comfortable . During my germany travel there was one airhostess who was telling jokes each time she was serving the early morning breakfast . 4 am was not the best time for a joke but still it was nice to see that she was serving the breakfast with a touch of humour . There are other industries where you have to say 150 goodmornings but here you have to tell 150 goodmornings within 15 minutes almost continuously (remember getting inside a plane ).
I can go on and on about the airhostesses but for the time being take home message  is if you are in a plane observe the airhostesses for 2 minutes and appreciate their work .
P.S  : the airhostess who was sitting next to me was an off-duty airhostess travelling to mumbai .
